It probably dates back to Early Christian-Byzantine. Today, after the last reconstruction, it still shows evident traces of its past in valuable architectural access portals and broad arches that characterized the Colonnade of the surviving square. The Interior has a single nave, overlooked by the interesting chapels dedicated to Saint Thomas and the Blessed Sacrament, hosts, in the crypt below the altar, the urn containing the bones of the apostle Thomas moved to Ortona on 6 September 1258 from the Greek island of Chios. The Cathedral leads to the Diocesan Museum collecting stone artifacts, paintings and sacred silverware of exquisite workmanship.
